Setting the highest standards across all ferry classes

At the leading edge

The global ferry segment comprises RoPax vessels, cruise ferries, shuttle ferries and high-speed light craft, and is currently characterized by a lot of older tonnage needing to be replaced and increasingly tough requirements for environmental performance. It is often the first to introduce innovative technology such as battery-electric propulsion, using LNG and hydrogen as alternative fuels and, increasingly, autonomous operations.

Multi-stakeholder dialogue

DNV is the leading classification in the ferry segment, working in partnership with owners, shipyards, designers and suppliers to improve performance across the full range of ferry classes. We support every stage of the ferry lifecycle, ensuring efficient operations with minimum emissions and minimum downtime.

Deep expertise

We are committed to sharing our unique competence with customers from the critical early phase of newbuilding projects, through design plan and approval, construction, operation and recycling. Traditional services during the construction phase are related to classification and certification, but we can also assist owners, yards, designers and suppliers with tailored advisory services.
